Hair loss can happen to anyone regardless of socioeconomic status, including those at the very top of the social ladder. For both men and women, hair loss often happens at some point later in life due to genetic makeup. As your body ages, the cells in your hair follicles naturally begin to degenerate and fail to produce as much as they initially did. Other times, hair loss can occur as a reaction to a traumatic or extremely stressful life event. This type of hair loss is known as telogen effluvium. It can also be a side effect of certain medications.
Celebrities Who Suffer From Hair Loss
Some of our favorite celebrities have suffered from hair loss. Many of them have successfully hidden their struggles from their fans’ view, but some have chosen to open up about their fight with hair loss. According to the BBC, even the likes of legendary supermodel Tyra Banks and actress Viola Davis have suffered from hair loss.
Ariana Grande
For years, Ariana Grande’s hair was a mystery to her fans and critics alike. But in 2014, the singer set the record straight in an Instagram post, telling her followers that dyeing and styling her hair every other week for the TV shows she starred in completely wrecked her natural hair. She wears hair extensions in a high ponytail to allow her natural hair to recover from the hits it took when she was younger.
Jada Pinkett Smith
On a Facebook Watch episode of Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith shared her reaction when she first noticed she was losing hair. “It was terrifying when it first started,” Pinkett said in the episode. “I was in the shower one day and then handfuls of hair, just in my hands, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?'” However, Pinkett Smith saw the bright side of her condition and started exploring new hairstyles, including braids, cropped cuts, and added turbans and head wraps to her wardrobe.
LeBron James
Superstar basketball player LeBron James has struggled with maintaining an even hairline throughout his professional career, at times turning to hair plugs and transplants. James takes the criticism and jokes about his thinning hair in good fun.
